This show is sure to be a hidden gem in the Folk Club calendar this year. Matt Walters returns to the stage for the first time in over a year, 4-time New Zealand Music Award winner Anika Moa makes a rare appearance in Melbourne and she will be joined by one of our favourite local songwriters Tim Guy.
Tim and Anika have played in each others bands for years when Tim was living in NZ, so they will perform “in the round”, alternating songs from their amazing back catalogues.
Anika has been one of the most successful singer-songwriters in New Zealand over the past 10 years, and her live performances are legendary – you won’t come across a more engaging live act.
We like to call Tim “whisper folk” as he is all about subtlety. The Folk Club environment is made for guys like Tim where if you sit back a truly listen, you will hear how gorgeous and emotive his songs truly are.
Matt Walters has had a really interesting career to date. He signed to Mercury Records in 2008, on which he released 2 EP’s and his debut album Farewell Youth in 2011. After leaving Mercury Records, he re-released Farewell Youth independently, and has had a lot of success online, notably with his song I Would Die For You being viewed over 6 million times on YouTube. Matt is now re-entering the live scene with a new album due later in the year, so this will be his first show back and we’re sure there will be many in town very excited about it.
