We are very excited that Jackson McLaren will be launching his debut album with a hometown show at The Melbourne Folk Club. He is a Warrnambool lad who has made Melbourne home over recent years. His debut EP was produced by Josh Pyke when Jackson was 17, and has long been a favourite here at Folk Club HQ. The new record is out now and we can’t wait to get the first taste live in the first set on June 4th.

Luka Lesson got a standing ovation at Woodford Folk Festival over the new year when he put in one of the most brilliant performances we have ever seen. We are very excited that he is our first spoken word artist joining the folk club bill, he won’t be the last.

The first time we saw Lucie Thorne perform live was actually in the Bella Union several years ago, when she was supporting Pieta Brown. Pieta and Lucy have since released a record together as Love Over Gold, which speaks volumes for the quality of the music that was played that night.

Lucie brings a rare intimacy to her performances, with almost whispered, beautifully restrained vocals and one of the most rich, luscious guitar sounds you will ever hear.

She has been consistently acclaimed as one of Australia’s finest singer-songwriters over a career spanning 6 album releases, The Courier Mail describing Thorne as “Australia’s PJ Harvey…possessing the punch of Cat Power and the wise words of Joni Mitchell”

In short, we are in for a treat.
